ARLlS/Norden -Art Libraries Society Norden is an association for Nordic art libraries and art librarians. The association was established in 1986. ARLlS/Norden is a member of IFLA (Intemational Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) Section of Art Libraries, together with a growing number of sister associations around the world.
ARLlS/Norden aims to further every aspect of art librarianship in the Nordic countries. Members are libraries within the subject areas of art, industrial art and design, architecture, photography and adjacent areas. ARLlS/Norden wants to give librarians, active within these areas, the opportunity to cooperate, and is a platform for coordinated action. The association serves as a forum for information and discussion among its members, and promotes their professional interests conceming education, research activities and publications.
The annual meeting, which normally takes place during 2-3 days, is arranged on a rotating basis in the Nordic countries. The program is organized on a topic of common concern. On these occasions there is ample opportunity for discussion and exchange of ideas, and study visits are set up. Aside from the annual meeting, there is a great deal of activity in the national groups, all of which meet regularly.
ARLlS/Norden takes an active part in the international art library community, both at IFLA General Conferences and at special conferences organized by the Section of Art Libraries and the national ARLlS groups.
ARLlS/Norden consists of both institutional and individual members in the five Nordic countries. ARLlS/Norden is governed by a board of five members, one from each Nordic country.
