To all members of ARLIS/Norden.
ARLIS/Norden is hereby calling to nominate a candidate for IFLA Art Library Section for the period 2009-2013, as decided at the ARLIS/Norden annual meeting in Reykjavik, June 12th 2008.
Eila Rämö, who is the present ARLIS/Norden representative, has edited these guidelines for the work.
Who may be Nominated?
A candidate does not have to be a member of IFLA to be nominated. The important thing is what that person can contribute. Candidates should:
- have appropriate knowledge and experience to contribute to the Section
- be keen to be involved in IFLA
- have a working knowledge of at least one of the IFLA languages - Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Russian, and Spanish -be able to participate in the work of the Standing Committee at no expense to IFLA.
- Standing Committee members will be expected to attend 5 Congresses, beginning in 2009 (Milan) to and including 2013.
Responsibilities:
As a nominee of ARLIS/Norden:- participate in IFLA Council meetings.
- report about the Nordic activities at the SC meetings and IFLA ALS Newsletter.
- report about IFLA ALS activities at ARLIS/Norden conference, website, mailing list etc.
- contribute actively to ideas for projects and conference programme meetings.
- join in the work of the Section, for example, by undertaking projects, organising workshops, preparing translations, etc.
- recruit new Members to the Section and to IFLA -Stick to deadlines for reporting financial and other information.
- respond to requests from IFLA HQ for advice, representation at meetings, etc.
- assist in the production of a newsletter, promotional leaflet, and generally disseminating information about Section activities.
- help with the translation of newsletters, conference papers, promotional leaflets etc.
- encourage participation in the Section by people in different parts of the world, by identifying potential new candidates and corresponding members.
- assist in the allocation of "portfolios" to individuals serving on the committee (for example Section membership recruitment, organising translations, preparing workshops, etc.).
- be prepared to serve the committee as a Chair, Secretary, Information Officer, Newsletter Editor or Treasurer.

Important dates
- Before September 15th E-mail your name and curriculum to your national Board member
- After September 15th The Board will shortly after September 15th publish a list of candidates to be commented by the members of ARLIS/Norden
- October 20th Last day for commenting on candidates on the lists
- November 10th On the basis of the list and comments the Board will choose a representative for IFLA Art Library Section for the period 2009-2013.
